One-on-One Computer Classes
-Create a resume, and/or a cover letter, online job searching, basic computer use, Microsoft training.
-There are over 30 computers available for independent use.  Up to two hours of use permitted a day, extended privileges if job hunting.  There are two dedicated job resource computers available in the Adult Services Department.  















Read for L.I.F.E. is a program of the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library designed to improve literacy in Hancock County.  The program uses volunteers trained to act as tutors on a one-on-one basis with adult non-readers.  Our tutoring services are free.  ​Click here for more information about the program.

Findlay-Hancock County Public Library has joined the Ohio Obituary Index, a collaborative project of the Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont, Ohio, and more than 60 Ohio public libraries.  Please visit the Ohio Obituary Index to search for obituary citations.  Due to software obsolescence, the original Hancock County Obituary Index has not been updated or corrected as of August 2011 and has been taken offline as of April 2016. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We have family histories from local families and prominent American Families. We accept family histories donated to this library that include Hancock County ancestors.

The library holds the indexes to the Ohio Federal Population Census 1820-1880. We have various census indexes through 1930 for Ohio counties, we also have some statewide early census indexes. For Hancock County we have indexes from 1830-1900 and we are working on the 1910 census index. 1940 Census will be online April 2012.

We have the the Courier newspaper on microfilm. We have birth, death, marriage, and Will records from the earliest time period to the contemporary time period for Hancock County. We have the Grantee/Grantor index for land records. We have the earliest deeds and some township records. We also have some church registry records.

We have an extensive collection of genealogy and local history materials.   Although our primary focus is Hancock County, we have indexes and histories for all Ohio counties.  We also have a large selection of how-to materials to assist you with your research.

One-on-One Computer Training

     Patrons can register for their own 30-minute session with an Adult Services staff member to learn more about subjects such as Microsoft Office programs, e-mail, the Internet, resume writing, smart phones & tablets, Facebook, ebooks, Pinterest, and computer use.  The sessions will focus on basic skills. 
     Patrons are limited to one session per month.  Each session focuses on one subject; patrons can choose what specific issues they want to learn about within the class selected. The classes are intended for hands-on training meant to address individual questions. For more information or to register, call the Adult Services Department at 419-422-1712, ext. 245.

Members of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance group (VITA) will once again be offering free tax preparation assistance at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. The VITA volunteers will be available from February 1 through April 15, Monday-Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Saturdays 10:00-3:00.  Call 211 or 1-800-650-4357 (number is available 24 hours per day).  Please make appointment by calling 211 or 1-800-650-4357.  Walk-ins are not accepted.  Thank you.
The library is a distributor of Federal, State and City tax forms. Due to reductions from the State Department of Taxation and IRS, forms are available in limited quantities.  City of Findlay tax forms, Ohio tax forms in limited quantity. All other forms are either in stock, on the Internet at, or in reproducible formats. Library staff members are not permitted to offer tax advice.

September 23: Military and Overseas Absentee Voting begins (ends November 6)


October 10: Deadline to Register to Vote

October 11: Absentee Voting by Mail begins (ends November 7)

October 11: Early In-Person Voting begins


November 4: Deadline to Request an Absentee Ballot (Noon)

November 6: Mailed absentee ballots must be postmarked by this date

November 7: General Election: Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

November 7: Voters are able to drop off absentee ballot at their county board of elections office until 7:30 p.m.

 There are three easy ways to register to vote:

•Visit the Board of Elections website for forms. 
•Pick up a form at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library, available year-round
•Visit the Board of Elections office at 201 East Lincoln Street (rear) Findlay, Ohio
