The library gratefully accepts gift items only with the understanding that they become the sole property of the library. We thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity. If the items cannot be used in the library, they are usually sold at the Friends of the Library's Book Cellar, with the proceeds benefiting the library. Items that cannot be used in the library or in The Book Cellar may be donated to other institutions or organizations. Please note that donations are accepted at the discretion of library staff, as outlined in the donation guidelines. Staff reserve the right to refuse donations due to various factors including condition, age, format, and quantity. Furthermore, the library cannot place a dollar value on donated items for tax purposes. All donations must be brought to the Circulation Desk. Donations are not to be left in the book return. Please call 419-422-1712 to schedule a time to deliver large donations. If you wish to have a form filled out when you make your donation, please let us know.
The library is happy to accept the following items in good physical condition: • Books • DVDs and Blu-rays • CDs • Books on CD • Vinyl records • Puzzles and board games • Vintage books • Bibles • Hymnals • Coloring books (without markings) • Workbooks (without markings) • Notebooks/Journals (without markings) • Ohio yearbooks • Northwest Ohio history materials • Foreign language materials
Magazines may be left on the Magazine Exchange rack in the atrium.
The library cannot accept the following items: • Materials that are burnt, wet or water damaged, moldy, stained, dirty, or torn • Materials that have damaged bindings, loose or missing covers and pages, excessive writing/highlighting, or odor • Textbooks older than 5 years • Encyclopedia sets • VHS tapes • Cassette tapes • Calendars
Additional community locations that may accept book donations or recyclables include the following: • Neighborhood Little Free Libraries • The Salvation Army Thrift Store & Donation Center • Goodwill • Hancock County recycling donation sites
